What's the difference between Royalty-free media and Free media?

First, we need to understand that anyone who writes a book or produces a work of art or music deserves to get paid every time anyone uses it, buys it or makes a copy of it.

Royalties refers to the money paid or owed to the author, producer or the performer of the work.

Royalty-free art or music means that you can legally use the medium without paying royalties, but you still might have to pay a handling charge or some other type of fee in order to get the medium to use.

Free art or music means you can use the medium without paying either royalty fees or handling fees.

Copyright refers to the right of the person who created and/or owns the work to have control over any copies made of it, and to profit from it.
