VideBytes™ Glossary
Broadband
A high-speed Internet connection, as opposed to dial-up
connections. DSL and Cable Internet connections are
broadband connections.
ClikPix
A picture of your VideByte™ that can be added to a
VideByte™ email so that your recipients will know to click
and watch your VideByte™.
Flash Format (.swf or .flv)
A streaming video file format that works well on the
Internet. Flash files are relatively small, and
they stream. This enables them to play instantly over most
broadband Internet connections. Flash videos are made for
the Internet, and they must be propertly installed on a web
page in order to play.
Hyperlink
Text or an image that you can click on that
will take you to another web page, anoher place on the same
page, or will start an audio or video playing.
Pay-per-Click Advertising
A way to purchase advertising on Google and
other popular web sites where you pay each time someone
clicks on your link to visit your site. Although
pay-per-click advertising can be very effective, it can
also be a very expensive trial-and-error process. On
Google, the links at the very top and down the
right-hand column are pay-per-click ads. The ads on the
main section of a Google page are free. Generally the sites
that rank near the top of the free ads have been optimized
for the search engines. See Search Engine
Optimization.
Search Engine
A web site that gives you the ability to find
what you need on the web. It functions as a giant index to
the content on the Internet. Google is a search engine.
Your goal is to have your web site ranked high (near the
top of the first page) on the search engines in the
geographical areas where you want to attract business.
Search Engine Optimization
Configuring your site in such a way that it
will rank high on the search engines. It involves the
content on yor web site and the way your site is
configured.
Streaming
A method of delivering audio and video over the
Internet that allows the audio or video to start
instantly, and to play smoothly over most Internet
connections. While non-streaming audios and videos must
load completely on your computer before they begin playing,
a streaming file will begin playing when a small part of
the file is loaded, and will continue playing while the
rest of the file is being loaded onto your
computer.
Traffic
Refers to the number of
visitors who view your web site. Most web sites get very
little traffic because the owners have not done anything
to get traffic to their sites. A good strategy can make
your web site a powerful tool in building your
business.

VideByte™ Email
An email that contains a link to a web page
with a VideByte™. You cannot send a video that will play in
an email. You can put a link in an email that will take the
reader to a page where your VideByte™ will play. If your
email software will allow it, the best way to accomplish
this is to put a ClikPix in the email and hyperlink it to
the web page that will play your VideByte™. See
ClikPix.
Windows Media Video Format (.wmv)
A common format for video files. Although it does not
play as well on the Internet as flash formatted files, it
is one of the preferred video file formats for offline
viewing. MacIntosh users may need to download free viewer
software from MicroSoft in order to view .wmv files.
